The manufacture of copper wire rods dates back to the founding of the Sumitomo Electric Group. The copper wire rods have been used as the raw material for a number of Sumitomo Electric Group products, including automotive wire harness.

Whilst aluminium cable is now preferred for some applications, copper cable continues to dominate in automotive wire harness production as it has for decades.  Copper is a tried and trusted material that proves reliable well over the 10 year life of most modern vehicles.  Copper has a lower electrical resistance than aluminium and therefore bundle size is smaller, taking up less valuable space in vehicles.  Copper also has higher temperature limitations than aluminium and therefore continues to be the material of choice in high temperature environments.
